Well I am pretty satisfied that I have done enough on re-drafting my candidacy so that I can re-submit it. Just need to write an explanatory letter to accompany it to outline the changes I have made. I think I will run it past my supervisor Ann Schilo first who should now be back from long service leave. It is not due back in until the middle of february so Ihave time. If anyone thinks that the arts are an easy option when it comes to post-grad study I think they are mistaken. This has been such a rigorous process and will continue to be for 3 more years but hopefully soon I can get back to some painting. I have been paying $100 a month for a studio space I have hardly used but will need it for the 2.4 m square paintings, one of which I have started already. I have to say though, that I really love the theoretical research. A lot of artists resent it but I don't find that it conflicts with my art-work though it is difficult to do them concurrently as they use different parts of the brain.
I always find this part of the year unsettling. Usually when the Chinese New Year kicks in and we are into another cycle astrologically things start to make more sense. Of course energetically the Christian ritual has over-ridden the original Solstice which is summer here in the southern hemisphere but winter in the north - a time of death and rebirth. I suspect that the western psyche still tunes into the northern hemisphere anyway because we are very new to this country so it is probably no surprise that it is an unsettling time.
