'American Idol': And the winner is ...
Scotty and Lauren are back on the stage, waiting for the results (hope you set your DVR for the extra minutes). The representative from the accounting firm hands Ryan the envelope, and he dims the lights.
Scotty doubles over, perhaps as relieved as he is surprised.
They're on their feet at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C.
The Idols surround Scotty, leaving Lauren on the outside, smiling uncomfortably. Eventually, a few of the women break away to hug her, too.
Ryan asks Scotty how he feels. "Man, it's been a year since me and Lauren Alaina tried out," Scotty says. "We've been together since day one, and we're going to stay together."
As he starts to sing I Love You This Big, the emotions of the season and the victory finally get to him. He leaves the stage to hug his family, and he can barely get through the song.
As the song ends, the credits roll and the confetti drops, Scotty tilts his head back and sticks out his tongue, trying to catch the confetti as if they were snowflakes.
