Ah, the manatee. The lovable sea-faring cow that would not seem to harm a soul. They make great Family Guy Episodes (those idea balls have to go somewhere) and sometimes have a playful side. However, this story is not about those types of manatees, but rather the ones that play baseball at Manatee Community College. (no relation)
The Manatee Community College Lancers took on the Pittsburgh Pirates in an inter-squad spring training game. The real shocker here is that the Manatees won by the score of 6 to 4. I will give the Pirates that at least they lost to a team from a location that sounds like a docile sea-faring cow.
Although the Pirates had a split team which only included their best prospects, the Manatees found a way to win for the first time in their school's history against the Pirates. Manatee Left Fielder Tony Mitchell went 2 for 3 against Pittsburgh with a double and three runs scored. The Pirates had a chance to save face late in the game, but Manatee left fielder Nick Graham made a diving catch to take away a hit from third baseman Henry Henry of Pittsburgh. (no joke)
The punchline for this headline is already written on the hearts of all Pittsburgh Pirates fans. Not only did you lose to a team from a Community College but you lost to a team from a location named "Manatee". That is even without the idea balls to help them.
