It is kind of ironic to be blogging about a blog book, but that is what I am doing. I don't usually get sucked in by unsought-after advertising campaigns but I admit to being seduced by this one. Mainly because I love books and have always held a not-so-secret desire to be published.
Of course if you can't wait for the publisher to realise your talent, in a culture where you can get pretty much anything you want as long as you are prepared to pay for it, you can self-publish. So here it is. I took up the offer made by Blog2Print. For $54 including postage I now have a satin- paged-hard-cover book of my blogs that includes all of my postings for the last 3 years.
I will also admit to an egocentric pleasure at reading my old blogs. I haven't visited them for a while, I never trawl back through the archives, so they are now interesting to read - and a great snapshot of my life. The other advantage I hadn't really thought about, is that if the network decides to wipe your stuff (as has happened to a writer I am told by another writer-friend) at least you have a hard copy and can retrace your steps.
There are a few layout issues, on behalf ot the printing program I would suggest, and a few editorial errors because I couldn't be bothered going back through them. But overall I am very pleased with the result. It is the sort of thing I can now repeat and give to members of my family who might like to find out who I really am (or just look at the pictures)
