"Know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em"

The very basic rules of being winning poker player in the long run, are well put in to this classic song "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers.

"You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em."

"Ev'ry gambler knows that the secret to survivin',

is knowin' what to throw away and knowing what to keep.

'Cause ev'ry hand's a winner and ev'ry hand's a loser."

If player would be able to follow these rules, he would most likely to become a winning poker player:

- Know when to hold them.

- Know when to fold them.

And understand that every hand can be a winner as well as a loser, so he should know what to throw away and what to keep.

It is that simple. Yet still not easy at all to make those right moves in the middle of game, but with playing, learning, practicing and experience it comes easier and easier to make them.

As we all know, beginners hardly ever fold if they have "a good hand". They just can't believe they are losing with such a beautiful hand, and so they won't fold them no matter what the board is.

At the same time professional players, who have lot's of experience, can fold monster hands when they assume they are losing with them. That is the key difference in between winning player and losing player.
