Publicist Max Clifford has revealed that X Factor boss Simon Cowell wanted Dannii Minogue to stay on for the new UK series.

But the Aussie singer confirmed over the weekend that she won't be returning because audition dates clash with the live shows of Australia's Got Talent.

'[Simon Cowell] definitely wanted to keep her in because she was very popular and has worked very well,' says Max, 68.

'But in the last few months, because of the American X Factor, this X Factor has had an awful lot of juggling going on and it's a question of getting the best possible combination.'

Simon announced recently that he'd be taking a back seat role on the UK series, while Cheryl Cole will be focusing only on the American show.

Despite reports Dannii, 39, felt she was pushed to leave, Max insists the decision was made purely because of the mum-of-one's other commitments.

'I think it was more of a question of going backwards and forwards to Australia doing 25 hours all the time when you've got a baby,' he told Phillip Schofield and Jenni Falconer on ITV1's This Morning.

'So I do think that would've had a big impact on her.'

Louis Walsh is expected to return for the new series, and Take That singer-songwriter Gary Barlow has been confirmed as a new judge.

The new girls are tipped to be N-Dubz star Tulisa Contostavlos, 22, and Saturdays singer Frankie Sandford, 22.
