Kobe Bryant Fined $100,000 for Gay Slur

It looks like Kobe Bryant has landed in some hot water this week. The L.A. Lakers star was fined $100,000 by the NBA for allegedly calling a referee a homophobic slur during Tuesday's game.

According to UsMagazine.com, Bryant was penalized by ref Beanie Adams for a technical foul and the player was caught on live TV calling Adams a "f**king f*ggot."

"Kobe Bryant's comment during last night's game was offensive and inexcusable," NBA commissioner David Stern said. "While I'm fully aware that basketball is an emotional game, such a distasteful term should never be tolerated."

According to TMZ, Bryant apologized for his comment. "What I said last night should not be taken literally," he said in a statement. "My actions were out of frustration during the heat of the game, period."

"The words expressed do NOT reflect my feelings towards the gay and lesbian communities and were NOT meant to offend anyone," the basketball star added.

Bryant also appeared on ESPN 710's 'Mason & Ireland' radio show, where he revealed plans to appeal the fine, calling it "standard protocol."
