Atletico Madrid central defender Diego Godin will be out of action for up to a month after undergoing a successful operation to secure his acute appendicitis.
The Uruguayan was admitted on Saturday night suffering from severe abdominal pain, and underwent surgery immediately to repair the problem, with the player remaining in hospital under observation for the next three days.
Unfortunately for los Colchoneros, the period of recuperation from such a condition is likely to keep him on the sidelines until the beginning of December, meaning that he will miss a number of crucial matches.
In total, Godin is expected to miss seven games in all competitions, most notably the capital derby with rivals Real Madrid, and crucial Europa League encounters versus Rosenborg in Norway and Aris Thessaloniki at the Vicente Calderon.
Godin moved to Atleti during the summer from Villarreal after being a key member of the Uruguay squad who finished fourth at the World Cup in South Africa.
