When Ditka was a coach for the Bears, he met a terminally ill 11 year old girl from the Chicagoo area. After visiting her in the hospital, he was touched by her courage and arranged for her to attend a Bears home game. When her condition took a turn for the worse, Ditka went back to the hospital for another visit and presented her with the football from the team's most recent win.
