In Memoriam: Gaines Adams (1983-2010)

Outside the Boxscore has some sad news to report as the NFL family lost another current player this season as Bears defensive end Gaines Adams passed away this morning.

Adams was fourth overall pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2007 NFL Draft and played for the team for two seasons until being traded to the Chicago Bears this season.

When Adams was drafted by the Bucs, many people thought he would become the air-apparent to Simeon Rice and did produce solid numbers during his NFL career collecting a total of 13 1/2 sacks.

Adams was taken to Self-Regional Hospital in Greenwood, South Carolina early on Sunday morning due to health issues. He passed away, soon there after. Although the officially report has not been released by the coroner, it was believed that Adams was a victim of an apparent heart attack.

Gaines Adams was 26.

UPDATE: Marcia Kelly-Clark, Chief Deputy Coroner for Greenwood County stated that Adams died from cardiac arrest due to an enlarged heart.
