The Netherlands which is sometimes called Holland upsets Dominican Republic in World Baseball Classic

Usually, I figure that most of you could care little about the World Baseball Classic and in most situations you would probably be correct. However, one of the bigger upsets since the tournament was introduced in 2006 has occured with the Netherlands taking out the Dominican Republic by the score of 2-1 in extra innings.

The Netherlands who had already beaten the Dominican team by a score of 3-2 in an earlier pool play game, pulled off the upset in 11th inning off of an error by 1st baseman Willie Aybar which scored the winning run in Eugene Kingsale.

To put this in perspective, the Dominican Republic as a team included Miguel Tejada, Pedro Martinez, Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez and David Ortiz. The team from the Netherlands had Sidney Ponson and Randall Simon. Yes...that Sidney Ponson.

This might have been the biggest upset in sports history if it was not for the fact that the World Baseball Classic is viewed as an exhibition and it would have to overtake "The Miracle on Ice", George Mason's run in the 2006 NCAA tournament, NC State's run to a championship under Jim Valvanno, and many others.

However, at least for these couple of hours the Netherlands are superior to the Dominican Republic in baseball.
