On a day where we celebrated, "Mother's Day", Oakland Athletics pitcher Dallas Braden pitched a gem that his mother would have approve of.
Braden faced 27 Tampa Bay Rays hitters and retired them all as he pitched the second perfect game in Oakland Athletics history since Jim "Catfish" Hunter did back in 1968 vs. the Minnesota Twins. The Athletics went onto beat Tampa Bay by the score of 4-0.
Braden only needed 109 pitches in this affair where 77 of them were strikes. To the end the game, Braden got Rays outfielder Gabe Kapler to ground out to Oakland Athletics shortshop Cliff Pennington.
Braden who was drafted in the 24th round of the 2004 MLB Draft by the Athletics was most known for this season's early confrontation with Yankees 3rd-baseman Alex Rodriguez before pitching this gem.
What makes this moment even more intriguing was that it came on Mother's Day, Braden's mother passed away when he was high school from melanoma and his grandmother had been raising him since.
Congrats from us at Outside the Boxscore to Dallas Braden for pitching the 19th perfect game in Major League Baseball history.
