Ranking all 26 of the Wrestlemania Main Events best to worst

Every sport has a huge special event that all it's fans die to see. Baseball has the World Series, Football has the Super Bowl, Hockey has the Stanley Cup, and Wrestling has Wrestlemania. Wrestlemania is the day that every fan looks forward to. And the Wrestlemania Main Event is the most important match on the card. Now there have only been 26 Wrestlemanias. Which means their have only been 26 Wrestlemania Main Events. In this article I will attempt to rank all the Wrestlemania main events from worst to best. Each slide includes a promo video for the match if one was obtainable.

I will be ranking each Main Event on 3 things.
1. The match quality: The better the quality of the match, the higher the spot
2. The story behind it: The more innovative or emotional the feud behind the match is, the higher the spot
3. How important the match was to the wrestling business. The bigger the impact the match had on the business, the higher the spot.
This is my first article so bear with me. Now without further ado, let's get started!

26. Lawrence Taylor vs Bam Bam Bigelow (WM 11)

This match is definitely the most embarrassing match in Wrestlemania history, and maybe even WWE history. Having a Football Player beat somebody as skilled as Bam Bam Bigelow just basically sends the message that anybody can wrestle. Wrestling already gets enough crap with people saying that it's fake and easy and that anybody can do it and this match definitely did not help. The match itself wasn't too bad considering that this was Taylor's first match ever, but they should have just let Shawn Michaels vs Diesel be the Main Event.

25. Hulk Hogan vs King Kong Bundy (WM 2)
This match was awful for many reasons. First, a Wrestlemania Main Event should never be a gimmick match such as a Steel Cage match, it should always be a regular match (with No DQ being the only exception). Worst of all, they locked two terrible wrestlers in a Steel Cage together and actually expected good results? The match was pretty awful and it I'm just thankful that it only lasted 10 minutes. Terrible Main Event for what I believe was the worst Wrestlemania of all time.

24. Bret Hart vs Yokozuna/ Hulk Hogan vs Yokouna (WM 9)
Now technically the Main Event of Wrestlemania 9 was Hulk Hogan vs Yokozuna, but the scheduled Main Event was Bret Hart vs Yokozuna. Either way both matches sucked. I must admit that Yokouna is pretty agile for a 500 pound man, but he definitely did not have the ability to be in a main event match. At least a good main event match. On top of that, Bret Hart, one of the greatest in-ring wrestlers, couldn't even carry Yokozuna to a a great match. After Yokozuna defeated Bret his was fooled into a match against Hulk Hogan who then defeated him for the WWE Championship! So we got two crappy champions for the price of one Wrestlemania. They should have just kept the belt on Bret to begin with.

23. Yokozuna vs Bret Hart (WM 10)

Bret Hart vs Yokozuna, a match so awful WWE decided to do it twice. Wrestlemania 10 was actually a pretty decent Wrestlemania. We had two 5 star matches, one between Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels and one between Bret Hart and Owen Hart. Both of those matches should of been the Main Event instead of this match. Now compared to the Bret Hart vs Yokozuna match last year, this match was a success, but is still wasn't worthy of being in the Main Event spot.

22. Hulk Hogan and Mr. T vs Roddy Piper and Paul Orndroff (WM 1)

To be honest, this match wasn't that bad for a match taking place in 1985. The reason it's so low is that it had 2 major problems. One, a tag match should never be in the main event of a Wrestlemania. Two, there was no reason that the WWE Championship was not on the line in the Main Event. But I'll give it a free-pass since it was their first Wrestlemania

21. Triple H vs Randy Orton (WM 25)

Now going into the match, this feud was awesome. Randy Orton was putting the McMahons through hell. He had punted both Vince McMahon and Shane McMahon in the head. On top of that, he RKO'd Triple H's wife Stephanie McMahon! Everybody was excited for a match this big at Wrestlemania, and boy did it let us down. This was definitely one of the worst-worked matches of 2009. And at a Wrestlemania as bad as Wrestlemania 25, this match needed to be good. I'm just thankful that this feud is finally over because this match has been overdone way to many times now. may be its WM 25 Main Evnet Match and if it is then its Aweful Main Event but i've got WM Real Main Event Match
(HBK vs UnderTaker)
20. Randy Savage vs Ted DiBiase (WM 4)

This match was one of the most shocking moments in WWE history. Back in 1988 and most of the 80's peroid, only two men we're ever WWE Champion, and they we're Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. At Wrestlemania 4 everyone just assumed that one of the two would win the title again, but that wasn't the case when Hogan and Andre both got DQ'd. It was huge and everyone wanted to know who would leave as the new WWE Champion. Randy Savage was able to pull out the win and leave as the WWE Champion. Oh yeah!

19. John Cena vs Triple H (WM 22)

Wrestlemania 22 was probably the height of John Cena's hatred. The Match pitted John Cena against Triple H with Cena has the babyface and Triple H as the heel. Oddly enough the fans cheered for Triple H and booed Cena out of the building. Either way the match was awesome But as Main Event its Aweful,  You've got to admit that it was aweful as Main Event cuz it was about WrestleMania Main Event match i think WWE Should this match WM Main Event HBK vs Vince ..

18. The Undertaker vs Sycho Sid (WM 13)

This wasn't a bad Wrestlemania match at all, it definitely wasn't one of the best, but it wasn't bad. The Undertaker hadn't been the WWF Champion in about 6 years and was a huge fan favorite. Sycho SId was the reigning champion and Undertaker had his number. The Undertaker was able to pick up the win with a little help by Bret Hart seeing that the match was NO DQ, then he forced Sycho Sid to REST IN PEACE.

17. Hulk Hogan vs Randy Savage (WM 5)

This was a big match because the Mega Powers had finally exploded. Randy Savage turned heel when he believed that Hulk Hogan had alternative motives and wanted Savage's wife Elizabeth. The two finally went head to head in a great match at Wrestlemania 5. Hogan was busted open, he was bloodied, but he was still able to overcome the odds and defeat Randy Savage, typical Hogan match-up but not bad.

16. Triple H vs Chris Jericho (WM X8)

Chris Jericho had become the first Undisputed Champion (an accomplishment he still boast about to this day) and was on a roll. Both The Rock and Stone Cold had all fallen victim or Y2J, and now he had one more man to beat, the returning Triple H. The Game had won The Royal Rumble and was guaranteed a title match at Wrestlemania. The two went on to have an average match at Wrestlemania which included the awesome spot when Stephanie McMahon got pedigreed by Triple H. In the end, Triple H was able to leave as the 2nd Undisputed Champion!

15. Hulk Hogan vs Sgt. Slaughter (WM 7)

Hulk Hogan's match against Sgt. Slaughter had an awesome storyline with Slaugher sympathizing with Iraq and constantly putting down USA, much to the dismay of Mr. American Hulk Hogan. At Wrestlemania 7 Hogan and Slaughter had a great match, Slaughter beat the hell out of Hogan, made him bleed all over the place and for once it seemed that Hogan may actually be down and out. Then somehow someway Hogan was able to make a comeback (like he always does) and beat Slaughter for the title.

14. Edge vs The Undertaker (WM 24)

Wresltemania 24 saw a match that the fans have wanted to see for years. The Undertaker finally wrestled Edge and what a match it was. Edge had screwed The Undertaker out of the World Heavyweight Championship by cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase on him and taking the World title from him. Then Edge screwed him over again at Survivor Series by pretending to be a camera man. The match at Wrestlemania was amazing and would have been match of the night if it wasn't for Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair cuz HBK vs Ric that was also awesome and award winnig match but i think Taker vs Edge also good i know ot better then HBK vs Ric but you know they also did good work in the ring. It really proved that Edge is one hell of a wrestler and let's just hope that the Rated "R" Superstar one day Main Events a Wrestlemania again!

13. Batista vs Triple H (WM 21)

Wrestlemania 21 was one of the most important Wrestlemania's in WWE history. It saw the rise to success of Edge, Batista and John Cena. Batista was sick and tired of Triple H and wanted to go out on his own. Batista finally had the chance to do just that when he won the Royal Rumble and got the chance to face Triple H at Wrestlemania 21. The match definitely was no wrestling classic, but it was great to see Batista win his first World Championship. Triple H basically dominated the first half of the match with Batista dominating the second. At least in the end the animal was unleashed and Batista finally left the World Heavyweight Champion!
12. The Rock vs The Big Show vs Mick Foley vs Triple H (WM 2000)

Wrestlemania 2000 had an awesome Main Event because it was really cool to see each McMahon have a favorite to win. Triple H had Stephanie McMahon, The Big Show had Shane McMahon, Mick Foley had Linda McMahon and The Rock had Vince McMahon. At the end of the match the final two men left we're Triple H and The Rock. Vince McMahon then came and everyone thought he was there to attack Triple H but instead he attacked the Rock. This made Triple H the first heel to ever win a Wrestlemania Main Event, and back then I'll admit that he definitely deserved it.

11. John Cena vs Shawn Michaels

At Wrestlemania 23 John Cena had something to prove. John Cena was being booed week after week, even after defeating veterans such as JBL, Chris Jericho and Triple H he still wasn't taken seriously. Everyone still believed that he was nothing but a lucky champion. At Wrestlemania 23 John Cena finally had the chance to prove himself if he could defeat Shawn Michaels. Both men competed in one hell of a match. Cena was able to pull out the victory by making HBK tap out to the STFU and finally proving that he was no joke. At Wrestlemania 23 Cena was able to prove that the champ is here! Some time i'm thinking that Shawn Michaels dont want to win this match cuz HBK also Cena's little bit friend..i mean How can John Cena beat Mr.Wrestlemania i mean How ? Cena wasn't bad Wrestler but its about 2007 Cena's (3rd or 4th) i think 3rd WM match then how can Cena beat HBK ?..

10. Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant (WM 3)

Most people would consider this the greatest Wrestlemania Main Event of all time, but I think number 3 is correct. It pitted the Irresistible Force against the Immovable Object. The match itself wasn't too good, of course until the point that Hogan body-slammed Andre, taking the big man off his feet for the first time in his career. Hogan then proceeded to hit the Atomic Leg Drop ending Andre the Giants 15 year undefeated streak! This match furthered the amazing popularity of Hulkamania brother!

9. The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin (WM 15)

The Rock vs Stone Cold at Wrestlemania 15 was great. Vince McMahon had just one the Royal Rumble but decided he wasn't going to use it because The Rock was the champion and was part of his corporation. Commissioner Shawn Michaels the revealed that if the winner of the Royal Rumble decides to give up their championship opportunity at Wrestlemania, the runner-up gets the match instead. Luckily the runner up was Stone Cold Steve Austin setting up the story for one of the greatest feuds in Wrestlemania history. Besides, who could forget that awesome beer bath that Stone Cold Steve Austin gave to the corporation?

8. Triple H vs Shawn Michaels vs Chris Benoit

It was Wrestlemania 20. It was Madison Square Garden. It was the first triple threat match in Wrestlemania history. It was Shawn Michaels vs Chris Benoit vs Triple H. The feud this match began with 2 years prior with Shawn Michaels and Triple H having an on and off feud beginning in 2002. The two had a last man standing match at the Royal Rumble that ended in a no contest. The same Royal Rumble that Chris Benoit won by eliminating the Big Show. Chris Benoit then used his Royal Rumble Championship opportunity to challenge Triple H to a match a Wrestlemania 20. During the contract signing for the match, Shawn Michaels signed his name on the contract, thus creating the first ever triple threat Main Event at Wrestlemania. The match was an outstanding contenst and in the end Benoit won by forcing Triple H to tap, making the first ever submission victory in a Wrestlemania Main Event. This was Benoits one and only World Heavyweight Championship, but he went on to be one hell of a champion. but either way this was one hell of a match and will go down in history as one of the greatest contest in Wrestlemania history!
7. Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle (WM 19)

Both Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar are arguably the two greatest athletes to ever enter the WWE. At Wrestlemania 19 we finally got to see the match we've always wanted. Brock Lesnar had won the Royal Rumble and challenged Kurt Angle for a title match at Wrestlemania. The match was a damn good Main Event and it was impossible to tell that Angle was wrestling with a broken freakin' neck. Even though Lesnar screwed up the shooting star-press, it was still pretty impressive to see him ad-lip the F5. Great match and it was awesome to see Lesnar leave as champion for the 2nd time. Here comes the pain!

6. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Shawn Michaels (WM 14)

This is one of the most important matches in WWE history because it ushered in the Attitude Era. Stone Cold had just won his second Royal Rumble match and this time he was up against his toughest challenge yet. Not only was he going against Shawn Michaels but he was also facing both DX and Mike Tyson. At the end of the match, the referee was out and Austin had just hit the stunner. Tyson was the special enforcer and out of nowhere, he turned on Michaels and gave Austin a quick three count. Earning Austin his first WWE Champion and creating one of the biggest twist in Wrestlemania history!
5. Hulk Hogan vs The Ultimate Warrior (WM 6)

This match was epic because it was the first ever face vs face Wrestlemania Main Event. It also had both the Intercontinental and World title on the line. The crowd at the Skydome we're completly split on if they wanted either The Ultimate Warrior or Hulk Hogan to win. For two men with pretty bad wrestling abilities the two we're able to put on one hell of a match and in the end, The Ultimate Warrior was able to leave as the WWE Champion. Giving Hulk Hogan his first of two Wrestlemania losses.

4. Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker (WM 25)
OMG 1st Time In WrestleMania The Undertaker is going One one One With The Great One The HeartBreak Kid Shawn Michaels.
The much more important question is who will win this match.
Undertaker is 16-0 in WrestleMania matches, and a match against Shawn Michaels put Michaels out of the business for about five years.
Shawn Michaels is Mr. WrestleMania and has never lost to the Undertaker.
Former N-J wrestling columnist David Rosenberg is a huge Michaels' fan, while graphics co-worker Eric Page is a huge Undertaker fan.
David Rosenberg says : These two men have entirely different styles, entirely different appearances and are truly the only two men who are still on top of the wrestling world that connect right now to the glory days of the 1980s. Michaels' best accomplishment is (perhaps) his ability to have great matches on the grandest stage of them all: WrestleMania. All you have to do is watch his other WrestleMania matches vs. Bret Hart (Iron Man Match), Diesel, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Ric Flair. It's a virtual who's who of wrestling, and Michaels carried them all."Michaels does not have the most wins at WrestleMania, nor does he have the most title wins at WrestleMania. All Michaels ever does at WrestleMania is steal the show!
3. The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin (WM X7)

This match was one of the most anticipated Wrestlemania Main Events in WWE history. The Rock and Stone Cold we're both megastars and at the height of their popularity. Stone Cold had one his 3rd and final Wrestlemania which set up this epic encounter between the Rattlesnake and the People's Champion. The match began with a full head of steam and never slowed down. Both men beat the hell out of each other and both men we're bleeding. Then, out of nowhere, Mr. McMahon came and handed Stone Cold Steve Austin a Steel Chair, in which Austin bashed the hell out of the Rock and was able to get the pin. This making one of the biggest heel turns in WWE history. The match will always be remembered as one of the greatest Wrestlemania Main Events and there is only one Main Event that surpasses it.

2. Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels (WM 12)

Wrestlemania 12 had arguably the perfectly wrestled main event. Both Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels hated each other in real life, but we're still able to put on one hell of a match. Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels wrestled an hour long Iron Man match, and in the end not one man was able to score a pin fall. The match had to continue in sudden death until a pin-fall was scored. Shawn Michaels was able to get the win by super-kicking Bret Hart twice winning his first ever World Championship. This match proved why Shawn Michaels is Mr. Wrestlemania.

1. The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels (WM 26)

At Wrestlemania 26 the world was treated to one of the greatest matches in wrestling history. It was the Streak vs The Career. Shawn Michaels became obsessed with ending The Undertaker's undefeated streak. He tried countless times to get The Undertaker to face him but the deadman wouldn't hear of it. Until finally Shawn got the Undertaker to accept, on one condition, Shawn Michaels was forced to put his historic 25 year career on the line. Setting up one of the most heated and highly anticipated matches in Wrestlemania history. We saw moonsaults, tombstones, chokeslams, superkicks, last rides and kick-out after kick-out. At the end of the match The Undertaker put Michaels away with a deadly jumping tombstone piledriver, ending the career of one of the greatest wrestlers to ever live, Shawn Michaels. The match was easily a 5 star match and might have been the greatest match in Wrestlemania history. Shawn Michaels proved why he's the icon, the showstopper, the headliner, the main event, and Mr. Wrestlemania one last time, while the Undertaker showed that he's the phenom of the WWE for a reason. An outstanding match that will always live on as the greatest main event in Wrestlemania history! For Poromo Click Here >  Streak vs Great Career WM 26
