Pedro Martinez (sadly not) to Astros, Other Transactions of St. Patty's Day

First of all...yeah I don't get this picture either.

Secondly, Pedro is apparently just about an Astro. There's not a whole ton in that rotation beyond Oswalt, so I see this as a pretty good move for the Stros. Their fifth starter spot was probably going to be won, pre signing, by former flash in the pan Russ Ortiz. Pedro is way better, even injured, than him, and you gotta think he'll hold a better spot in the rotation. Plus he goes well with I Rod as a fellow over the hill future hall of famer. Thanks to MLBTradeRumors for the mention. Edit: Okay not an Astro, actually Aaron Boone is having open heart surgery. Whoops.

Second, the Kansas City Royals signed Sidney Ponson. Don't see a ton of good there, but it's a minor league deal and it's kind of cool to see the star of the Netherlands (along with Randall "Sausage" Simon) with another shot at the big leagues.

Last, with some NFL news and other Kansas City news, the Chiefs signed WRs Bobby Engram and Terrance Copper today, as well as LB Monty Beisel. Bobby Engram is a very solid veteran addition to a young Chiefs squad, and if he stays healthy I expect him to be a solid 2nd or 3rd WR for Matt Cassel with big third down contributions. Beisel and Copper are more special teams guys at this point, but Beisel should be especially good giving that he's now reuniting with Mike Vrabel. Gotta be a little excited to be a Chiefs fan after this offseason.
