NFL Transactions - 2/15/09

Two pretty solid safeties got their walking papers today, with the Rams cutting Corey Chavous and the Bears parting with Mike Brown.

Chavous who was a three year starter and defensive captain this year for the Rams. However declining speed cost Chavous his starting job late last year and so it was clear he would not be a part of the Rams plans anymore. He will save the Rams $1.2 million in cap room. To think only 5 years ago he had 8 interceptions in a Pro Bowl year with the Vikings.

Brown had been with the Bears for 9 years and was a very good player when healthy but has had many issues staying healthy. From 2004-2007, Brown missed 43 games, and he ended this last season on the IR . This move did not come as a surprise to many, but it's really a shame the team has to cut Brown as he's a good guy (he decreased last year's salary from $2.44 million to 950k to help the team out) and good player when healthy, and he was loved by his teammates and fans. But I'm sure some team will take a chance on him as a starter given his potential and veteran leadership.
