Chuck Daly: 1930-2009

There is sad news to report from the NBA as former Detroit Pistons coach Chuck Daly has passed away from pancreatic cancer.

Chuck was the head coach of the Detroit Pistons from 1983-1992 where won back to back titles with the Pistons. Only the 7th coach in NBA history to do so, he also coached the New Jersey Nets and Orlando Magic near the end of his career.

Daly was the head coach of the 1992 Dream Team which won gold at the Barcelona Olympics. Daly is currently the only coach to win an NBA title and a gold medal at the Olympics. Daly was known for installing toughness to his basketball teams and was a master at creating tempo change in the NBA during the last 80's.

He will mostly be known for his "Bad Boy" Pistons teams that forced on defense and out-muscling you every night. On that level, he changed the NBA from a finesse run and gun style to a street-fight of we will beat you up mentally and physically everynight.

During this year's NBA playoffs many coaches wore "CD" pins to honor Chuck for fighting through this disease. Daly passed away Saturday morning with his family by his side.

Daly was a Hall of Fame coach, a gold-medal winner, and help changed the NBA for year's to come. Daly was 79.
