It's Always "A Party In The USA" For Willis McGahee

Baltimore Ravens running-back Willis McGahee is a fearsome runner when he is on the NFL field.

However, off of it, he's rocking out to Miley Cyrus. This comes to us courtesy of teammate Donte Stallworth's Twitter account:

Clearly it would have been weird if he was singing to "Who Owns My Heart".

Drew Bennett Playing For the Ravens? Nevermore!

The Ravens were initially screwed by the sudden retirement of Derrick Mason, last year's leading receiver. All that changed, however, when they signed Drew Bennett to a one year contract two days ago. Clearly things were headed in the right direction.

Until now. According to Adam Schefter and Sharapova's Thigh on Twitter, Bennett is done after re aggravating an old knee injury. Schefter quotes him as saying, "I've been blessed to have the opp to play in NFL for as long as I have but it's time for me to move on to next chapter in my life."

Sucks to be Bennett. He always seemed like a good guy, and this seemed like an awesome opportunity for him.

Sucks even more for the Ravens though. First you're set with Mason, now Bennett, now nothing.
And you thought your weekend was bad. Time for some awkward call backs to all those guys they sent home without a job three days ago. Can you say D.J. Hackett?D

Where is TO's next stop?

The most surprising news of the past twenty-four hours is Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens being cut from the team or sources say. When Owens signed back in 2006, everyone assumed that Owens was the big play wide-receiver that Cowboy’s quarterback Tony Romo needed to lead the Cowboys back to a Super Bowl.

However, now that Owens has been let the go and looking for new work. The real question seems to be where Terrell Owens is going to end up next. Looking at the landscape of the NFL, there are not a lot of options out there for TO but there are four teams I could foresee going after Owens services.

Washington Redskins: The NFC East foes might have possible been the front-runner to go after Owens services. However with most of their money tied up in defensive-tackle Albert Haynesworth and cornerback DeAngelo Hall, the Redskins would have to do some creative work to sign Owens to a deal.

Specifically if you have Dan Snyder as an owner, I would not put anything out of the realm of possibility.

Miami Dolphins: Currently the Dolphins do not have a #1 wide receiver on their roster. One positive for Owens is that current vice president of the team, Bill Parcells, coached Owens with the Cowboys and knows his level of talent.

However, the issue with this is the lack of arm strength by Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington. Since Owens does his best work with the deep ball, the logic of bringing Owens to Miami would seem to make less sense.

Baltimore Ravens: Remember back in 2004, Owens appeared to be on his way to Baltimore to play with Ray Lewis and the Ravens. However, Owens then decided to sign with Philadelphia and spurn the Ravens.

Well, Ray Lewis who was resigned to a three year deal could put differences aside and gets Owens to come to Baltimore to play with Joe Flacco throwing him the ball. This would seem to make the most sense since Flacco can throw the deep ball and would give Derrick Mason room to work within the offense. The real question here is, Does Ray Lewis forgives and will Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome want him?

Oakland Raiders: Currently, the Oakland Raiders are the leader out of the clubhouse with Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer stating that Owens could be signed by next week.

Raiders owner Al Davis loves to throw the deep ball and with uber-talent at quarterback JaMarcus Russell loves to throw it. The Raiders have not had a talented wide-receiver since Tim Brown, so it would make the most sense that the Raiders would want the services of Owens. Only issue that I could see here is that Owens would probably want to play with a playoff contender. However, 8-8 won the AFC West last year, so maybe Owens will be in silver and black.

Just like a classic Terrell Owens quote, “Get you popcorn ready, this is going to be a show.”

NFL Transactions 2/16/09 - The Day Fred Taylor was no longer a Jaguar

Mike Brown being cut by the Bears? Expected, but semi shocking.
Fred Taylor being cut by the Jaguars? Expected, but...wow

Taylor, 16th on the All Time NFL Rushing List with 11,271 yards, has had a storybook NFL career. Early on he had so much promise but was fragile, which costs him 23 games between 1999 and 2001. But from 2002 (where he started 16 games) onward, Taylor has proven to be durable enough for NFL punishment and fast enough to change the game in an instant given his absurd 4.6 YPA. He wanted to stay with the Jaguars and wouldn't have been around much longer as he apparently only wants to stick around until he passes Jim Brown's career total, which at 1,041 could be done in one season. But the Jaguars needed to pass the reigns to Maurice Jones Drew sometime, it's just a shame it has to come at the expense of such a great guy. Taylor was due $6 million next year.

In other news, Chris McAlister was cut today by the Ravens. A little shocking considering his 10 years with the team, but he has had issues with injuries and inconsistency as of late and was scheduled to make $8 million next year. Even more shocking? McCalister has made three Pro Bowls, while Taylor has made one. Regardless, both should be picked up, though obviously for less pocket change than they were expecting.

In the money move of the day, the Denver Broncos cut Dewayne Robertson, Jamie Winborn, Niko Koutouvides, Nate Jackson, Marquand Manuel and John Engelberger. While none of these players are big, big names, a few of them were receiving huge contracts. Robertson was due $16 million next year as part of a contract he got in his younger years, while Koutouvides (3.062 million), Winborn (2.25 million), and Engelberger (2.185 million) were due a ton too. Between this and a few cuts the other day, the Broncos have freed up about $30 million in cap space for new head coach Josh McDaniels to rebuild this team. If only second chances were always this easy.

Ray Lewis Not a Raven? Not if Steve Biscotti's Wife has anything to say about it

I was looking at NFL.com's Around the Web today and found this little gem about Ray Lewis. Apparently New York and Dallas papers are writing about the future Hall of Fame linebacker, pondering how great their defenses would be with this beast of a man in the middle. But Steve Biscotti, Ravens Owner, recently responded to these claims:

"I’ve been hopeful forever that we’re going to work [out] a deal,” Bisciotti said. “Last year, I said I don’t think that other people are going to value Ray Lewis higher than we do. He’s showing at 33 that he’s capable of playing like a 28-year-old. I’ve got my wife on budget already to try to save some money so we can sign him.”

Looks like it'll be Ramen and Mac and Cheese for a while in the Biscotti household. Here's to hoping Ray stays in Baltimore, especially in an offseason where we may see LT switch teams.

NFL Playoffs Round 2 - Tim's Take

So I figure Ben might give his 2 cents on this round of the playoffs as well, but I wanted my say to be heard too. So here's my analysis of this weekend's upcoming contests:

Ravens versus Titans: A very tough one. Two teams with suffocating defense and often hit or miss offense, which relies mostly on their run game. I actually think QB play might be a major factor, and I want to give the edge to Kerry Collins there, as he's been here before and Flacco had a bad game last week against the Dolphins defense. This game really hinges on the health of Albert Haynesworth though. And right now, since he's banged up, I'm picking Ravens in a squeaker.
Ravens 16, Titans 13

Cardinals versus Panthers: The Cardinals actually woke up last week against the Falcons. But the Cardinals are on the road and the Panthers were the league's number 2 seed for a reason. DeAngelo will run wild and the Panthers will win this one, though the Cards may put up some points.
Panthers 35, Cardinals 17

Eagles versus Giants: To be honest, I was born a Pats fan, and so I'm not big on the Giants. And I used to love Duce Staley. So I'm rooting Eagles all the way. But the Giants run game is too good to lose to Philly again. Even though the Eagles team has been scorching lately, they still lost 10-7 to the Redskins a few weeks ago. It'll be a good game, but the Giants will advance.
Giants 20, Eagles 17

Chargers versus Steelers: If LT doesn't play, the Steelers win this one. But if LT does play...the Steelers still win this one. San Diego made the playoffs at 8-8. And they looked good last week...but I don't think they can keep it up against the Steelers suffocating Steel Curtain. Harrison, Polamalu, and Company will send the Chargers packing this week.
Steelers 24, Chargers 13
