Seats Getting Real Hot In NFL

For a usually frigid time in late November, it sure is getting awfully hot in the NFL.

The only problem is that the scorching heat can be felt on many seats that support the behinds of team’s head honchos. This 2010 season is becoming remembered as a season of unfulfilled ambitions and disappointing leadership with head coaches either given the pink slip during the season or possibly getting their pardon papers in the near future.

The changing of the guard during the season is nothing new in the NFL; certain teams underperform in previous years and have sent head coaches home packing early. The difference is that many of those teams were sliding downhill in previous seasons as well.

This year, many of the teams that played well in 2009 started this year with big goals, but were never even close to reaching them as 2010 progressed. Some franchises have already cut ties with their head coaches, while others are nearly ready to sever those bonds soon enough.

Dallas Cowboys: Started With Wade Phillips; Now With Jason Garrett

America’s team appeared ready to return to prominence after last season. With an 11-5 record and first place of the NFC East, the Cowboys rumbled into the playoffs with a big win at home over their rival Philadelphia Eagles, but would come up short against the Minnesota Vikings in the second round.

Owner Jerry Jones’s state-of-the-art stadium was selected to host the 2011 NFL Super Bowl and his dream was to have the team become the first team to play a Super Bowl at home.

That dream soon turned into a nightmare.

Dallas would drop their first two games of the season before finally getting their first win just as their bye week came in week four. They would then go on to drop five in a row, prompting Jones to make a switch at head coach from four-year coach Wade Phillips to offensive coordinator Jason Garrett.

Since then, Garrett has appeared to adjust the direction of the ship back in the route Jones expected of his team to head prior to the start of the season. He has won two of the three games in which he’s been at the helm and is holding on to any slim chance of making Jones’s dream come true.

Minnesota Vikings: Started With Brad Childress; Now With Leslie Frazier

After losing an overtime heartbreaker in the NFC Championship game in 2009, this season became Super Bowl-or-bust for the Vikings. With virtually the same team returning from a year ago (including the age-less Brett Favre), Minnesota felt it was their year to be greater than last year and never lose in the playoffs.

The only problem is that they had to actually get through the 2010 regular season first.

The season began with the Vikes playing the first game of the season against New Orleans, the team that beat them out in the overtime championship game, and then against the Miami Dolphins. Both would end in losses. They would finally beat out the Detroit Lions for their first win just before they headed into their bye week.

That week produced a trade for WR Randy Moss, a move that looked to be a shot in the arm for a team in need of a boost. The trade instead became a virus of what was wrong with the Vikings as they would go on to lose three of the next four they played and the waiver of the superstar wideout after only acquiring him a month earlier. They would then go on to win only one of the next three outings and owner Zygi Wilf decided it was time for a change.

That change came in the form of canning head coach Brad Childress and promoting Defensive Coordinator Leslie Frazier as the interim head coach. Although they won their first game with their new leader, it appears that the Vikings took the bust road for the 2010 season with the hope of a title riding farther off into the sunset.

Coming Up Next For Possible Fired Coaches

San Francisco 49ers: Mike Singletary

Since becoming the coach of the 49ers in 2008, Singletary has become the face and voice of the team with his proclamations and domineering antics. He professes that this team, as well as his ability to coach, will continue to improve and progress with 2010 being the year that they would return to the promise land the organization once owned during the 80s and 90s.

Yet, as the 2010 season got underway, it appeared that the 49ers season appeared to reflect a year in their history that was not a part of those glory decades. San Francisco lost their first five games and got off to their worst start since 1979. A complete 180 for a team that not only believed themselves to be a division winner before the season started, but also a squad others picked as preseason NFC West favorites as well.

Now the 49ers are 4-7 and are hanging on to the ledge of the worst division in football with just a few fingers. Although they were shut out at home for the first time since 1977 against Tampa Bay, they have bounced back with a big win on the road at Arizona.

Will they ownership of the 49ers keep their faith in their extremely vocal leader, or will they kick him to the curb with the feeling that he is just all talk and no substance?

Cincinnati Bengals: Marvin Lewis

The hot seat is nothing new for Marvin Lewis. The eight-year head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals has been the in this same discussion topic since after the 2005 playoff run with no returns to the postseason since. He erased all those doubters with a 10-6 record in 2009 and finally getting back to the playoffs.

During the offseason, the Bengals acquired controversial WR Terrell Owens with hopes of capitalizing on last year’s success with a deeper playoff run this season. With another talented, but loud mouthed WR in Owens on one end, wideout Chad Ochocinco labeled the both of them Batman and Robin.

Except the only similarities that both receivers have is being a part of a bomb like the 1997 “Batman And Robin” movie.

After a 2-1 start, they have lost eight in a row including losses to 3-7 Cleveland and 2-8 Buffalo. It doesn’t get any easier for the team many thought would be a contender for the AFC North champions as four of their last five games are against teams with winning records.

Now that he is returning back into the hot seat discussion, Lewis can only hope the real Batman and Robin could come in to save this disastrous season and his job.

The Dallas Cowboys Suck, Bring On The Lap Dances!

This season for the Dallas Cowboys has been rather depressing, they currently are last in the NFC East and the current starting quarterback is a guy named Jon Kitna.

So it could be understandable that Cowboys fans are looking for others things to do when at Cowboy stadium. So, when one rather drunk female fan decides to give a dude sitting next to her a lap dance in the front row, that's something to watch at least.

An Awesome New Dallas Cowboys Fight Song by Matthias

Normally, I am not a huge fan of these fan-made videos where some super-fan does some idiotic stunt to show how much they love their favorite team.

Well, one Southern California resident named Matthias is a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and has decided to dedicate his love through this fight song:

Jets’ Super Bowl Talk Means Nothing without Darrelle Revis

“Honestly, we’re here for our Super Bowl. If we don’t get there, nothing else matters.” – Kris Jenkins

“Don’t be timid about saying it. That’s your goal. Write it down. Say it. Read it. Talk about it. It’s fine. It’s not false bravado. It’s real and that’s what we want. I think we have the players to do it.” – Mark Sanchez

“Anything short of the obvious is a disappointment. At the end of the day, to beat the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship or to beat the Saints or Vikings, we have to put it all together. It’s not enough just to have the manpower on paper.” – Braylon Edwards

“This is definitely different than any other year I’ve been in. It’s a true sense of Super Bowl or bust. This team is built for that. It’s been talked about over and over again. Guys understand that.” – Brandon Moore

These aren’t the words of a team that thinks they have a chance to make it to the Super Bowl, just like any of the other 31 NFL organizations. These are the assertions of a football club that is supremely confident it will be representing the AFC at Cowboys Stadium come February 6, 2011.

However, it can be said with no equivocation that Super Bowl talk for any team is simply empty rhetoric if they are without the services of their best player; and for the New York Jets that individual is cornerback Darrelle Revis.

As reported here, in a dramatic turn of events, the crown jewel of Gang Green’s top ranked defense has decided to hold out of training camp due to a contract dispute. Revis failed to attend the team's conditioning test on Sunday morning and officially became a holdout when he missed the team's mandatory meeting Sunday evening in Cortland.

By electing to hold out until his contract is restructured, Revis will be fined $16,523 a day by the Jets and has waived approximately $20 million in guaranteed salary for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

The dispute stems from the fact that Revis is scheduled to make $1 million in the fourth year of his six-year rookie deal, making him one of the lowest-paid defensive backs on the Jets. Revis, the 2009 AFC Defensive Player of the Year, is looking to become the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback, a distinction that belongs to Oakland Raiders defensive stand-out Nnamdi Asomugha, who will be making $15 million this season after signing a $45 million contract extension last year.

Make no mistake about it; this is a game of chicken that the New York Jets front office is destined to lose as Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones found out the hard way in the early 1990’s.

Prior to the 1993 season, after rushing for 1,713 yards, scoring 19 touchdowns and leading Dallas to their first Super Bowl victory in fifteen years, Emmitt Smith held out for over two months and the Cowboys started the season 0-2 before a proud Jerry Jones finally opened his wallet to make Smith the highest-paid running back in NFL history at the time. Smith responded by keying another victorious run to the Super Bowl for Dallas while winning the Associated Press Most Valuable Player Award in the process.

Everything the Cowboys did on offense in the 1990’s was triggered by their ability to effectively run the football with Emmitt Smith, just as everything the Jets do on defense is predicated on Darrelle Revis’ uncanny knack to shut down the opposing player’s best receiving threat; and no one in the league does it better.

When asked his thoughts on Revis finishing second to Green Bay Packers cornerback Charles Woodson for the 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award, Jets head coach Rex Ryan said, "This, in my opinion, was the best year a corner has ever had, the most impact a corner has ever had in the National Football League. That's my opinion. Apparently, that wasn't how everybody felt.”

Ryan also went on to say, "A number that I think would be interesting would be eight, and no, that’s not the amount of touchdown passes that Green Bay gave up against Arizona. That is the number of touchdown passes we gave up all season, and the biggest reason for that is Darrelle Revis."

Now Ryan may have given Revis a more favorable position at the negotiating table with those glowing comments, but he was merely being truthful about the main reason why Gang Green finished with the NFL’s top ranked passing defense last season. And in only his fourth season in the league, as scary as it sounds, Revis, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, can only get better.

As the fifth most valuable team in the NFL and with the highly anticipated move into a new stadium, there is absolutely no reason why the Jets should continue playing hard ball with the one of the cornerstones of their franchise.

Therefore, it’s time for the Jets to ante up before Revis’ holdout becomes a public relations nightmare and the team begins writing checks that their bodies won’t be able to cash.

The 10 Most Valuable Sports Franchises in the World

In retrospect, with the 2010 FIFA World Cup in the books, there is absolutely no questioning the influence and the power the sport of soccer has both nationally and, on a larger scale, internationally; a fact further evidenced when teams are ranked according to value across all sports.

On Wednesday, Forbes.com released its list of the world’s fifty most valuable sports franchises and the Manchester United Football Club of the English Premier League led the way with an estimated value of $1.83 billion; and with 139 million core fans and 333 million followers worldwide, it’s not hard to see why the Red Devils produce a revenue stream of approximately $459 million for the Glazer family.

Manchester United’s fellow international football club, Real Madrid ($1.32 billion), the most successful team in Spanish football and voted by FIFA as the most successful club in the 20th century, came in sixth on the list due largely in part to generating $225 million annually from broadcasting fees, the most in sports.

The Arsenal Football Club ($1.18 billion), the only team to have completed an English Premier League season unbeaten, was the third football club to rank in the top ten, finishing eighth on the list. The Gunners’ $102 million operating income was second to Manchester United among English Premier League teams in 2009.

Domestically speaking, American football rules the roost as National Football League teams accounted for 50% of the top ten and more than half of the top fifty with the Dallas Cowboys ($1.65 billion) leading the way, ranking second overall; no doubt due to the new Cowboys Stadium landing the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, Super Bowl XLV in 2011 and the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four.

The only Major League Baseball team to make the list, not surprisingly, were the New York Yankees ($1.60 billion), who ranked third on the list and owe a huge debt of gratitude to their recently deceased front office patriarch, George Steinbrenner, for taking one of the most valuable brands in sports to the next level with an unparalled commitment to winning and the creation of the YES Network.

Although the Yankees were the only baseball club to crack the top ten, they weren’t the only the New York team to rank among the fifty most valuable franchises in sports.

The New York Giants ($1.18 billion), who are close to selling out season tickets for the new Giants Stadium, and the New York Jets ($1.17 billion) were the seventh and ninth most valuable teams in the world respectively. The New York Mets ($858 million) ranked #38 after inking a 20-year, $400 million stadium naming rights deal with Citigroup in 2006.

Conspicuous by their absences from the top forty were teams from the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League. In fact, the only NBA teams to appear in the top fifty were the Los Angeles Lakers ($607 million) and the New York Knicks ($586 million) at #49 and #50 respectively, while no NHL team appeared in the top fifty.

Including the teams in the top ten, 36 NFL teams made the top fifty. The next closest sport was international football/soccer with six teams. The national pastime featured four teams in the top fifty.

Here are the ten most valuable sports franchises in the world according to Forbes:

1. Manchester United Football Club, soccer ($1.83 billion)
2. Dallas Cowboys, football ($1.65 billion)
3. New York Yankees, baseball ($1.60 billion)
4. Washington Redskins, football ($1.55 billion)
5. New England Patriots, football ($1.36 billion)
6. Real Madrid Football Club, soccer ($1.32 billion)
7. New York Giants, football ($1.18 billion)
8. Arsenal Football Club, soccer ($1.18 billion)
9. New York Jets, football ($1.17 billion)
10. Houston Texans, football ($1.15 billion)

Dallas Cowboys Fan claims Philly TSA "Jersey Profiled"

Recently in the news, some people were up in arms regarding racial profiling when certain individuals would enter TSA security checkpoints in airports.

Well, we might finally have a security screening based on a jersey. Not any jersey, a Dallas Cowboys jersey.

Cowboys fan Alyson Glenn claimed that Philadelphia TSA screeners pulled her out of the security line because she was wearing a Jason Witten jersey.

We get more in video form from CBS 4 in Philadelphia:

Glenn is asking for an explanation and apology from the TSA and to be honest, she will most likely receive it.

The real question now is, "What if she was wearing a Tony Romo jersey?"

Don't Spit on the Dallas Cowboys Star!

Many of the Dallas Cowboys fans that I know take pride in that mantra of being "America's Team" and the power of that star on the helmets.

Well, one Eagles fan by the name of Dave Spadarano (he works for the Phildelphia Eagles team website and their video podcast) decided to spit on the star and post the video on the team's site until it was taken down and eventually put on YouTube.

He will now be fired in 5....4...3....2....1

Never Bet on the Dallas Cowboys in December

When Intern Dave over at Global Sports Fraternity bet on the Dallas Cowboys, he should have known better. (Seriously, go look at their recent record in December)

Well, this is punishment that he had to go through from the bet. Look at Dave, Go!

Martellus Bennett tours the Cowboys new stadium

Current Dallas Cowboy tight end (and Twittermaven) Martellus Bennett has recently posted a tour of the Cowboys new stadium on his Youtube page MartyBTv.

Bennett, along with safety Patrick Watkins, took some time out to show off the Cowboys' new digs. There is even a brief cameo by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in this video.

However, one thing to call into question is the pricing at the concession stands. Ready to drop about $9 dollars on a beer or $14 on a sandwich? I guess not. I guess the saying is true, "Everything is bigger in Texas"...including the prices.

Mother Nature 1, Dallas Cowboys 0

The above video is of the Dallas Cowboys practice facilities in Irving, Texas as it collapsed during some hurricane force winds on Saturday.

There were 12 people sent to the hospitial due to injuries which included Special Teams coach Joe Camillis who suffered a broken back. The other sixty people at the facilities escaped with only minor injuries.

Watching the video itself is just insane and how this was supposed to be a safe place for the players to practice gets wiped away in mere seconds.

Where is TO's next stop?

The most surprising news of the past twenty-four hours is Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens being cut from the team or sources say. When Owens signed back in 2006, everyone assumed that Owens was the big play wide-receiver that Cowboy’s quarterback Tony Romo needed to lead the Cowboys back to a Super Bowl.

However, now that Owens has been let the go and looking for new work. The real question seems to be where Terrell Owens is going to end up next. Looking at the landscape of the NFL, there are not a lot of options out there for TO but there are four teams I could foresee going after Owens services.

Washington Redskins: The NFC East foes might have possible been the front-runner to go after Owens services. However with most of their money tied up in defensive-tackle Albert Haynesworth and cornerback DeAngelo Hall, the Redskins would have to do some creative work to sign Owens to a deal.

Specifically if you have Dan Snyder as an owner, I would not put anything out of the realm of possibility.

Miami Dolphins: Currently the Dolphins do not have a #1 wide receiver on their roster. One positive for Owens is that current vice president of the team, Bill Parcells, coached Owens with the Cowboys and knows his level of talent.

However, the issue with this is the lack of arm strength by Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington. Since Owens does his best work with the deep ball, the logic of bringing Owens to Miami would seem to make less sense.

Baltimore Ravens: Remember back in 2004, Owens appeared to be on his way to Baltimore to play with Ray Lewis and the Ravens. However, Owens then decided to sign with Philadelphia and spurn the Ravens.

Well, Ray Lewis who was resigned to a three year deal could put differences aside and gets Owens to come to Baltimore to play with Joe Flacco throwing him the ball. This would seem to make the most sense since Flacco can throw the deep ball and would give Derrick Mason room to work within the offense. The real question here is, Does Ray Lewis forgives and will Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome want him?

Oakland Raiders: Currently, the Oakland Raiders are the leader out of the clubhouse with Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer stating that Owens could be signed by next week.

Raiders owner Al Davis loves to throw the deep ball and with uber-talent at quarterback JaMarcus Russell loves to throw it. The Raiders have not had a talented wide-receiver since Tim Brown, so it would make the most sense that the Raiders would want the services of Owens. Only issue that I could see here is that Owens would probably want to play with a playoff contender. However, 8-8 won the AFC West last year, so maybe Owens will be in silver and black.

Just like a classic Terrell Owens quote, “Get you popcorn ready, this is going to be a show.”

Emmitt Smith and ESPN part ways, ESPN still owes him sex

I think it is safe to say that Emmitt Smith was a better football player than he was an ESPN NFL analyst. Very sadly though, Emmitt has been left go by ESPN which was first reported by Mike Florio of PFT.

Emmitt was mostly known as an ESPN analyst who had trouble finding his words and even sometimes making up words. However, he did provide some solid analysis and his legacy as being the all-time rushing king helped his cause of being hired. Good luck to Emmitt wherever he ends up.

However, my favorite moment is still have mouthing the words to the Young Jeezy song "Put On." I guess "bitches still owe him sex."

Your NFL Hall of Famers for 2009 are....

Bruce Smith, DE Buffalo Bills

Rod Woodson, CB/S San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders, and Baltimore Ravens

Bob Hayes, WR Dallas Cowboys

Randall McDaniel, OG Minnesota Vikings

Derrick Thomas, LB Kansas City Chiefs

Ralph Wilson, Owner Buffalo Bills

Congratulations to all of you, the Hall of Fame game will be between the Buffalo Bills and the Tennessee Titans on August the 9th.

And this one has over 1,000,000 views?

Tony Romo mimicking the ref. It sucks you can't do excessive endzone celebrations, but at least you can mess with the ref and not have to pay for it.

Terrell Owens doing the Soulja Boy

It is what it says. It's also really weird that a video like this has over 800,000 views.

Dallas Cowboys Fan fights back

When most news is reported on ESPN sources are usually delivered.

Well, ESPN NFL reporter Ed Werder reported that Terrell Owens and Tony Romo have a growing friction between them but didn't credit any sources for this info.

Well, a Dallas Cowboy fan decided to fight back against Werder and here are the results of that...
