Today, Outside the Lines was chronicling the Lebron James performance in game four of the 2011 NBA Finals and his on-going feud with DeShawn Stevenson.

ESPN's Bob Ley mentioned the Jay-Z diss song, "Blow The Whistle", which attacked Stevenson in 2008 and then was given instructions to read the entire first verse on-air:

World Basketball Festival - Day 1: Jay-Z, Team USA take Radio City Music Hall by storm

As reported here, New York City bore witness to the commencement of the inaugural World Basketball Festival, a celebration of the performance and culture of the game.

The four-day event officially began on Thursday, August 12 with the World Basketball Festival Tip-Off, where the finalists for the United States World Championship Team shared the Radio City Music Hall stage with one of the world’s greatest entertainers.

Following a one-of-a-kind, on-court showcase featuring the hopefuls who will be attempting to become the first United States squad to win the FIBA World Championship in 16 years, music mogul and multi-platinum selling recording artist Jay-Z turned the ‘Showplace of the Nation’ into his own personal playground to ensure that the World Basketball Festival hit the ground running.

And with stops at Harlem’s legendary Rucker Park for training and scrimmages by some of the national teams (Brazil, China, France, Puerto Rico), a scrimmage between Team USA and the Chinese National Team at Madison Square Garden and an international doubleheader at the ‘World’s Most Famous Arena' in the offing, the Festival is sure to leave an inedible impression on the Big Apple that won’t be forgotten.

Notable luminaries in attendance for the World Basketball Festival Tip-Off included: LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Amar’e Stoudemire and long-time New York Knicks fan Spike Lee.

Tickets, which start at $15, for the Sunday, August 15 international basketball doubleheader at Madison Square Garden, featuring the USA Basketball Men’s National Team and three of the world’s best national teams, are available via Ticketmaster.com at thegarden.com, by phone at 1-800-4-NBA-TIX, and at the box office at Madison Square Garden.

Jay-Z sues David Ortiz over club name

NEW YORK -- Jay-Z and a business partner are suing slugger David Ortiz, claiming the Boston Red Sox star named his Dominican nightclub after the mogul's chain of 40/40 clubs. The lawsuit, filed Thursday in Manhattan Federal Court, accuses Ortiz of calling his Santo Domingo club Forty-Forty in the hopes of trading on the rap star's fame.

The suit seeks over $5 million in damages and for Ortiz to forfeit any use of the 40/40 name. Jay-Z's string of bars can be found in Manhattan, Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

"David Ortiz is fully aware of Plaintiff's Manhattan 40/40 club, since he had been a patron there on several occasions before he opened his Infringing Forty/Forty club," the lawsuit states.

Simple explanation here: Jay-Z is a diehard Yankees fan. He sees that David Ortiz has been struggling (both at the plate and with the media), and now he is kicking Big Papi while he’s down. Fucking ass hole. Like David Ortiz really needs this on his plate, he’s already got the pressure and the watchful eye of the entire city of Boston on him. Jay-Z doesn’t need $5 million. The man’s already got plenty of cash, not to mention he’s banging Beyonce. This has to be solely about fucking with the Red Sox, right? Either that or Jay is just bored.

We all know Jay-Z is the cockiest son-of-a-bitch around. (Shit, I made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can). But I think he is overvaluing his own significance in this situation. I guarantee David Ortiz is a bigger name in the Dominican Republic than Jay-Z. Big Papi is a hero to those people. He doesn’t need to use Jay-Z’s fame and/or name to get people to go to his club. So I’m going to go under the assumption that this whole naming thing is just a coincidence.

Regardless of what happens with this lawsuit: Fuck you, Jay-Z.

Jermaine drops a verse over Jay's ol' classic, "Ignorant Shit". God damn I can't wait for his album to drop.

Granite State of Mind

Just got tipped off on this Jay Z parody video of Empire StateText Color of Mind. We've posted past parodies of Jay Z's Empire State of Mind and want to know what the freshy followers think of this one. Vote 1 star if you hate NH more after this video of 5 stars if you now want to move there.

PS- How long do you think it took this guy to make this video anyway? He basically sums up NH in a nutshell, but normally a parody comes out a few days or weeks after the single drops. Not months. Typical NH resident, behind the eight-ball on everything!

Wale Debates Skip Bayless on ESPN's First Take (Is Jay-Z the Greatest Rapper Ever?)

We’ve all heard Wale toss out all kinds of sick lyrics referencing sports, so it should come as no surprise that he killed it on ESPN’s First Take yesterday morning. Wale debated ESPN’s biggest jackass, Skip Bayless, on topics ranging from Kobe and LeBron to Tim Tebow. The highlight of the show came at the end, however, when the pair discussed the question: Is Jay-Z the greatest rapper of all time? Check out the video above.

It’s pretty funny watching Skip pretending like he has any idea what’s going on in the rap game. Jay-Z as the greatest lyricist of all-time, but a bad performer? I would think, if anything, it’d be the other way around, no?

(What do you think? Is Jay-Z the greatest of all time? Feel free to debate in the comments section).
