The Denver Broncos have become one of the biggest clusterbombs in the AFC West and that includes a division with Norv Turner, the Oakland Raiders, and Matt Cassel’s sprained knee. The Broncos pissed off their former starting quarterback Jay Cutler so much that he want a trade which he eventually got with the Chicago Bears and now their focus is on mal-content wide receiver Brandon Marshall.
Marshall was suspended last week due to conduct detrimental to the team from a practice where he showed little effort. A video surfaced showing him not giving optimal effort while the team did sprints, punting a ball and refusing to catch passes in a catching drill. Albeit, those are not great things to be showing other teams, everyone is quick to jump-on Marshall as a prima-donna and he should just show up without complaint.
However, I will cut Marshall some slack since the Denver Broncos organization has refused to accommodate his trade demand. Why was Cutler so quickly moved and Marshall was not? If you were the Denver Broncos, would you not want to move both players? I bet that most of you reading this have worked in an organization/job where you did not agree with the management and acted out because of it. Marshall is now “acting-out” since he believes that he is not being treated seriously by the organization in regards to his trade demands. I’m inclined to believe him since after the Shanahan firing, the organization has quickly deteriorated under head coach Josh McDaniels.
The book is rather still out on McDaniels as a coach but when you have your starting quarterback traded and your star wide receiver “acting out”, this obviously not a sign of a successful season. I understand that you wanted your former quarterback Matt Cassel but did you really not send a call towards Cutler regarding the possibility of it. McDaniels comes from the Bill Belichick school of thought that a player is no bigger than the team and everyone should keep their egos in check. However Belichick failed in Cleveland and then had to gain respect with the Patriots. At this point, McDaniels who is the second youngest coach in the league and he still has a way to go to earn this respect.
For the Broncos sake, they better hope that Marshall “ships up” because at this point, the Broncos asking price is too high. However, this could have been avoided by moving him after Cutler was dealt. The Broncos only have themselves and their head coach to blame if this season goes into the tank. In the end, blame the Broncos and McDaniels but “Leave Brandon Marshall Alone.”
