Chicago Cubs Fan Tries To Throw Home Run Ball Back, Woman Gets Doused With Beer

Over the weekend, the Chicago Cubs took on the Los Angeles Dodgers and one Chicago Cubs fan was trying to throw a Matt Kemp home run ball back onto the field.

Unfortunately, he didn't see the fan behind him with two full beers as he knocks one of them out and drenches a woman wearing black sunglasses:

The Case for Joe Girardi to Leave New York Yankees

Prior to the opening stanza of a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi addressed recent speculation surrounding his interest in the Chicago Cubs’ managerial position.

Girardi, a native of East Peoria, Illinois, is in the final year of a three-year, $7.5 million contract with New York and has already become the fourth most successful manager, behind Ralph Houk, Billy Martin and Clark Griffith, among the 17 former Yankees players who have been elevated to the position.

So while Girardi is attempting to lead the Bronx Bombers to a second consecutive World Series Championship, the Chicago Cubs are contemplating how to fill the void left by Lou Piniella, who retired on August 22 to care for his ailing mother.

And under the ownership of the Ricketts family, members of the Forbes 400, it appears that the Cubs would be willing to open the coffers in a concerted effort to lure Girardi away from the Big Apple.

With this stark reality in mind, Girardi, a graduate of Northwestern University, towed the company line in final comments to the media this season regarding his pending free agency; but the former Cubs catcher fell short of going on record with an unequivocal declaration that New York is where he wanted to manage next season.

"I'm going to talk about it for a few minutes today and that's going to be it. As I've said all along, my responsibility is to the Yankees. I was hired by the Yankees to do a job, we're in a division race, a very tight division race, and my job is to prepare this team to play every day. That's what I'm focusing on."

"I'm happy with my contract situation”, Girardi continued. “I feel I'm fortunate to be one of 30 managers with a contract right now managing in the big leagues. There are people in this organization that have done a lot more for this organization than I have that don't have contracts (for next season). We're not worried about it for next year. I'm worried about right now."

The task at hand, guiding the Yankees to World Title #28, may be in the forefront of Girardi’s mind but, championship or not, once New York’s season officially comes to an end there is no doubt that the 2006 National League Manager of the Year will give the Cubs every opportunity to present their case.

Essentially, Chicago is where Girardi was born and raised, where he went to high school and college, and where he spent the majority of his professional baseball career.

In addition, the Cubs' organization not only has an apparent willingness to compete with the Steinbrenner conglomerate for Girardi's services but the wherewithal to outbid them as well.

Finally, the Chicago Cubs haven’t won a World Series Title in 102 years and have been dubbed “The Lovable Losers” due to this distinction. As manager of the Cubs, Girardi would have the chance to make baseball history and achieve iconic status in the Windy City by ending the longest championship drought in North American professional sports today.

Never would one man be appreciated, beloved and celebrated more by one city for winning a single championship than for racking up multiple championships in another.

Basically, unless he wins in excess of four World Series Titles, Girardi will always be considered a spoke in the wheel of a New York franchise on virtual cruise control whereas he would be largely viewed as the main cog in the Cubs’ drive to end a century long dry spell the moment he becomes their skipper.

These are the factors that should weigh heavily on Girardi’s mind when he emerges as the hottest managerial free agent within the next couple of months; and the Chicago Cubs should be able to present an extremely compelling argument for Girardi to take the road less traveled and leave the New York Yankees in the absence of a critical firestorm.

In all likelihood though, Girardi won't leave the secure confines of the Yankees clubhouse for one that will require a few years to rebuild and retool. However, stranger things have happened in the annals of baseball.

Ron Zook Take Me Out To The Ballgame Singing FAIL

Recently, Illinois head football coach Ron Zook was asked to sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" at a Chicago Cubs game.

If you remember Zook came under fire during his tenure with the Florida Gators for his coaching performance but I have a sinking suspicion that he will be under fire for this singing performance.

Lindsay Vonn's Take Me Out To the Ballgame Gigglefest

One of the sweethearts of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics was USA alpine skier Lindsay Vonn. Vonn was recently at Wrigley Field in Chicago to throw out the first pitch and sing the customary tune, "Take Me Out to the Ballgame".

She pretty much giggles through the entire thing like a Japanese schoolgirl but it's too adorable not too watch.

By the way, why was she looking directly at the camera? At least, we now know that Lindsay Vonn has no bad sides.

Chester Taylor's Take Me Out To The Ball Game Rendition - Not Good

Chicago Bears running-back Chester Taylor was recently on hand to sing Take Me Out To the Ballgame at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

After asking fans if they wanted to win Super Bowl, Chester decided to use his vocal chords to belt out something resembling it.

Hopefully for Chester's sake his singing isn't a premonition of the Bears 2010 season.

Daily Dumbass: Derek Lee Hurts Himself While Eating

Freak injury time! Derrek Lee hurts back in chair collapse
"I know Alex Remington was just writing on how Derrek Lee(notes) has been prone to injury the past few years, but this is ridiculous.
According to manager Lou Piniella, Lee had just sat down for some pregame chow on Wednesday when the clubhouse chair beneath him decided to call it quits.
The Cubs first baseman dusted himself off for an appearance in an exhibition game against the Rangers, but he left early to receive treatment for his 34-year-old back. "
It's embarrassing enough to injure yourself while eating, but to do so while sitting in a chair looking like that is absolutely detrimental to your image.  Derrek Lee, you have millions of dollars and you are still sportin' the grandma poolside rocker?  C'mon now.  Lesson one of being a professional athlete, keep all your grandma's hand-me-downs secluded in one room.  Not to mention the chair looks like it got in a full out first fight with the ball player.  How you do so much damage while eating is beyond me.  I'm still stuck on who got the last laugh though?  Sure the chair took some hole-some shots that might require a patch job, but you don't see the chair being embarrassed in Yahoo! headlines do you?

Consensus:
Derrek 0, Poolside Granny Rocker 1

Today's Moment of Zen: Denise Richards sings "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"

In Today's edition of the Moment of Zen, the Chicago Cubs have made it a tradition to have famous people sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," ever since the passing of announcing legend Harry Caray.

There have been many terrible renditions from Ozzy Osbourne to Jeff Gordon. However, I think actress Denise Richards might be possibly one of the worst I've heard. To be honest, she botched it pretty badly. Although, Denise Richards is still attractive as hell and we still wonder why Charlie Sheen needed "extra assistance" when he was married to her.

In my personal opinion, she will always be "White She Devil" from Undercover Brother.

Field Trip Story to Come, Mike Fontenot Really Freaking Weird

First things first. Today Outside the Boxscore took a Field Trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Once I get all of the pictures uploaded to my computer there will be a post about our trip. Probably coming a little later today.

Secondly, I was reading some Yahoo Fantasy Info from Brad Evans and found out some very interesting stuff about Mike Fontenot of the Cubs regarding Carlos Zambrano and pre game rituals. Apparently before every game last year Zambrano would pretend to hammer a nail in Fontenot's head. And then somewhere in the season Zambrano began following that up with a piggy back around the dugout for Fontenot. When asked about it, Fontenot said, "I really can't remember where we got it from. It's just driving a nail into the ground, and then we implemented a thing where I jump on his back and he carries me to the promised land." Gotta love the wackiness, and I hope it keeps going this year too, maybe with some bat spinning added in.

Bill Murray (almost) has guts

Found this pretty cool YouTube clip of Bill Murray at a 1984 Cubs game. Murray talks to the press about maybe singing the National Anthem from his seat, but ends up letting Bobby Vinton do the job. Pretty funny stuff.
