Even NFL Films cannot spin the Detroit Lions 2008 season

One of my favorite parts of the NFL off-season is the NFL Films production of the team yearbooks where they somehow put the “spin” on a crappy season by the Cincinnati Bengals or the Oakland Raiders by adding orchestral music and slow-motion brilliance.

Most of you could guess my excitement when I was waiting for the 2008 Detroit Lions team yearbook. The Lions completed the first winless season of a sixteen game season and I was anticipating how they could possibly find any positives to talk about.

Well, they didn’t. Instead, NFL Films produced a preview for the 2009 Lions called: “On the Prowl, A Preview of the 2009 Detroit Lions.” What? Seriously NFL Films, C’mon. You produced a team yearbook for the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers and they did not win a single game either. Why should you coddle the Lions?

I thought it was the NFL Films duty to document every team’s season, no matter how bad it is. Maybe, there were some sympathetic feelings from NFL Films for Detroit and how the icing on the cake would just be drive home how badly their city has fallen in the past couple of years. However, I’m still dying to see what that 2008 Detroit Lions Yearbook would have looked like.

Maybe something like this….
