Tiger Woods Announces Via Twitter, No Go For US Open

In our current world, we almost to check our Twitter daily to find any new stories or information that we can post on this site.

This story broke a few minutes ago, Tiger Woods will not be playing in this year's British Open.

Here is the Tweet that sent out:

Not playing in US Open. Very disappointed. Short-term frustration for long-term gain.
So, there you have it sports fans, Tiger Woods not going to play in the US Open and thankfully didn't send a picture to prove that he isn't.

Sports In 2011 – A New Year With New Possibilities

2010 was a big year in sports.

It was a year in which many teams and athletes had the greatest moments in their lifetime or history. The fans of the New Orleans Saints and San Francisco Giants finally got to celebrate a title after decades of disappointing seasons and sad endings. Michael Vick had one of the best comeback seasons ever for an athlete after spending nearly two years in jail.

Yet, 2010 also marked a time of others who would drop into the doldrums of obscurity. There was Gilbert Arenas and his playful, gun-slinger antics that got him suspended for most of the 2009-10 NBA season. Ben Roethlisberger dealing with another sexual assault investigation that got him suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season.

Although both players hit the lowest points in their careers, neither one of them fell further from the cliff than Tiger Woods. 2010 was a year of saving and reshaping his image, dodging questions of his personal life and his wife divorcing him. What makes matters worse is that he couldn’t even manage a win in an event during the season.

Despite the down points for those athletes, they can luckily look forward to making 2011 a year of moving forward and descending back to greatness. Arenas gets a new start on one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference with the Orlando Magic. Roethlisberger will be leading his Pittsburg Steelers into the post season once again. Now that his personal life appears stable, Woods appears on par for a Vick-like bounce back year.

Aside from those intriguing 2011 storylines, this year looks to be a step up from 2010 due to its brimming potential. With so many possibilities already developing and new legends to be made at anytime, the public will have to remain on its toes for what the year has in store.

Here are some stories that have promise to shine brightly in 2011:

1) Can Tiger Woods Really Turn Things Around?

As discussed before, Woods had one of the biggest falls ever in the history of sports. Known for his ability to harness pressure and attention into a ball of fire that he unleashes on the courses for eagles and birdies, the legendary golfer finally illustrated one characteristic that we never seen before: he’s human.

The former number one ranked golfer can be optimistic about one thought though; while he did drop tremendously during the 2010 season, he really has no where to go but up in 2011. One win at an event will stamp 2011 as a more successful year than the previous one. Yet, in order to return back to having that invincible aura that he once carried around for years, he’ll have to win numerous events and majors this season.

With his personal life calming down, if he can regain his focus and ability on his game, Woods should be able to get back on course to make a run at Nicklaus’s major record.

2) Can The 2011 Atlanta Falcons Be The 2010 New Orleans Saints?

When “Who Dat” nation celebrated their Super Bowl title in 2010, it allowed a ray of hope for other franchises that have never been able to hoist the championship trophy.

This year could mark the birth of another first time winner.

If there was any team that could pull of a 2010 New Orleans Saints-type run in 2011, it would be the Atlanta Falcons. A team that has never won a Super Bowl since joining the NFL in 1966, this year’s team will have the number one seed in the NFC and have a team prime to end their Super Bowl-less drought.

Of course, to get there, they will need to get through the usual suspects who have reached the promise land lately. Recent champions, such as the New England Patriots, Pittsburg Steelers, Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints, are all back to make another go of it. Not to mention the usual playoff attendees, like the Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Green Bay Packers and New York Jets, are all hoping to reclaim riches that were synonymous with their franchise’s past.

Potential is in the corner for the Falcons; the only question will be if they can take the punches, and still be the last man standing.

3) Will We See A Miami Heat vs Los Angeles Lakers Final?

If there was a Christmas wish list of what each person in the world wanted, everyo e will most likely list seeing a match up between the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers for the NBA finals.

There is absolutely no doubt that this would be the hottest ticket in years to acquire, even hotter than any of the recent finals with the Lakers and Celtics. According to an article by Sports Illustrated, the Christmas day matchup between both franchises got the highest rated NBA regular season game since 2004.

What does this mean? The public wants more of this rivalry.

Not only would the public want it, but the NBA is holding their breath until their face turns blue in hopes of getting such a fairy tale matchup. A Lebron James vs Kobe Bryant matchup for the title would have the greatest storyline in the league’s history. Can James finally reach historical significance that he so desperately needs with an NBA championship on his resume? Or, will Bryant stop him to reach his second three peat to even himself with the god of basketball Michael Jordan?

4) Does Four Dominant Starting Pitchers Equal A World Series Title?

Already sporting a formidable trio with Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, and Cole Hamels, the Philadelphia Phillies felt this was the year they would bounce back from a 2009 World Series loss to win the title in 2010.

Too bad the San Francisco Giants had to go and play the spoiler role in the 2010 NLCS.

Despite the loss, the Phillies appeared to be early contenders for the 2011 season after the loss because of their powerful lineup and the trio kept intact. So it came with an even bigger shock when the Phillies snuck up behind the Yankees and Rangers to snag one of the most coveted free agent pitchers this off-season: Cliff Lee.

Now with the big lefty atop the rotation next to Halladay, Oswalt, and Hamels, Philadelphia looks stronger than ever and have a rotation that’s quietly gaining the reputation as one of the greatest starting pitching rotations in history. They will have challenges before them with the likes of the improved Boston Red Sox, the always pricey roster of the New York Yankees, and the San Francisco Giants going for a repeat.

Even with all those teams ready to take them on, the Phillies new addition could be the final part of the equation that equals a title.

It’s hard to say what exactly will be the biggest story of 2011. It could be any one of the four possibilities in the discussion, or even the proverbial story-out-of-nowhere that always erupts in sports each year. With so many options and opportunities for major headlines, the only way to be aware of what’s to come is to watch and observe the new year.

No matter what, 2011 will undoubtedly follow 2010 in one distinct fashion; it will be a year in which anything can happen in sports.

Law and Order LA, The Tiger Woods-Based Episode Promo

There has been talk on the interwebs about an upcoming episode of Law and Order Los Angeles based on the Tiger Woods scandal.

Well, that talk is true and it will air tonight where the episode is titled, "Playa Vista."

Below is the promo for said episode:

I'm getting my DVR ready as we speak

When Will Super Hero Tiger Woods Return?

With bulging muscles and mythical powers, the Marvel superhero and Norse god Thor has an aura that can scare anyone who opposes him. Anyone who tries to combat him is usually aware of power. His adversaries usually quake at the sight of him swinging his large, stone hammer.

Change the look of Thor into a person with a “cablinasian” background and morph the hammer into a golf club and what do you get?

The current number one ranked golfer in the world: Tiger Woods.

Since 1996 until 2009, he has been able to do the unthinkable: take over the sport of golf.

How has he magically been able to pull it off?

Well, conquering fourteen major championships to be second all time can help that assertion. Winning 71 PGA tour events to become third all time in that category can assist that claim. Becoming the youngest and fastest player to win a grand slam and to get to 50 wins in a career also adds evidence to that declaration.

Along with the comparison to the look and super hero-like characteristic that Woods has with Thor comes the similarities he has with Thor’s downfall. Both eventually lose their god-like power and intimidation factor to those they face.

Thor went from inheriting his father’s kingdom to being transformed into a mere mortal because of his arrogance as a god. He is forced to re-learn what it means to have power in order to become the super hero he once was.

For Woods, his began losing his reign on a thanksgiving night in 2009.

First came a late night car crash of Woods SUV on his own property. Then came rumors of a secret life filled with infidelity, which turned into actual accounts by more than a dozen women. Then came the problems within his family and a break from golf lasting about four months.

Since his return back to golf at the 2010 Masters in April, Woods has become insignificant. While his career and life is not a made-up comic, his aura and power over the golf world was nearly superhero-like and that’s what makes his 2010 season ironic to Thor’s downfall.

Although Woods has remained number one in golf rankings since 2005, he has looked anything but that way in 2010. He has finished fourth in both the Masters and U.S. Open, but all his matches have lacked that killer instinct to finish off a tournament that the Stanford graduate has always been equipped with since he became a pro golfer.

Along with the loss of his killer instinct is his lack of concentration. His accuracy has been abysmal on both his drives (currently ranked 163rd) and getting onto the green (166th). His putting average has also not been reflective of the Woods everyone remembers as he ranks 82nd this year in that category.

His latest tournament only helps to add to the fact that other golfers no longer fear him. At his last tournament at the Bridgestone Invitational, he finished with an atrocious eighteen over and a tie for 78th place. This tournament marked the lowest point of his career and that he has indeed fallen from golf supremacy.

With all that Woods has endured through this year, he still has a few tournaments this year to change his luck and performance this year. Along with that, he still has numerous years ahead of him to regain his reign over golf and possibly overtake Nicklaus’s record of eighteen majors.

Yet, with all the controversy and drama surrounding his play, personal life and future, the sound of the commentator from the old Batman television show comes to mind as the big question is presented:

Is this the end for Tiger Woods? Can he ever regain his power and become the dominant golfer he once was?

Treatment for Tiger Woods’ Injury Includes a Massage, Hmmmm…

Tiger Woods said tests Wednesday showed an inflamed neck joint that causes pain and makes it hard to turn his head, an injury that will require little more than medicine, massages and rest.

Woods had an MRI that revealed inflammation in a facet joint of his neck. He withdrew from the final round of The Players Championship on Sunday after a week in which he was seen stretching and rolling his neck.

Woods said treatment will include physical therapy, such as soft-tissue massage, rest and anti-inflammatory medicine. He said the prognosis was for a full recovery, and while the layoff is not expected to be long, rehab can vary.

So, let me get this straight. The treatment for Tiger’s latest injury includes a pair of soft hands caressing his bulging dick – er, disc. This can only end well, right?

Golf Channel Reporter Pulls a Steve Levy, Tiger Woods has "Bulging D***"

Just when you thought it was safe to talk about Tiger Woods, the Golf Channel's Win McMurray made a little blunder when talking about Tiger's injury at the Players Championship.

Instead of saying, "Bulging Disc"....she decided to pull a Steve Levy.

For those of you that forgot the Steve Levy blunder on SportsCenter, here it is in the below video:

Tiger Woods misses cut at Quail Hollows

Tiger Woods missed the cut today at Quail Hollows. Today Tiger Woods shot a career worst 79-+7 during the second round. To put this in perspective Tiger has never shot that bad at a PGA event. His worst round ever was in Europe with an 81 during the third round of the 2002 British Open. On another note this is what he accomplished, errrr...

Worst 36-hole total of professional career (153)
2nd-worst 18 hole score of professional career (79)
Ties worst 9-hole score of entire career (43 on back 9 today)
Hit 6 fairways over first 2 rounds, worst of his professional career
1st missed cut in non-major since 2005
Back-to-back double-bogeys (or worse) for 3rd time in entire career (14th and 15th holes today)

So basically after trying to prove to the world that he still had his stroke at the Masters, Tiger came up lame in this event. After seeing the sex scandal unfold we've now realized Tiger Woods is human, but let's hope this isn't what's in his future on the golf course, because that's one place where I don't want to see him become human.

3 Things That Baffled Me Last Week

I’m going to start doing a weekly thing every Monday/Tuesday where I focus on 3 things that blew my mind from the previous week. We’ll see how long I actually keep up with it, but here is the first installment.

1. Ben Roethlisberger Gets Off Again – How many girls does he have to rape before he gets locked up? Four? Five? The Georgia District Attorney officially announced today that no criminal charges would be brought against Roethlisberger. So he’s now 2 for 2 in avoiding sexual abuse charges. It’s crazy that he continuously gets away with this disgusting behavior with no repercussions. Hopefully, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will suspend Roethlisberger, despite the lack of a conviction. I wonder how much money Big Ben had to throw at this problem to make it go away. He definitely had to pay off the girl, and probably the club owner and some investigators as well. He must be down millions and millions of dollars trying to keep people quiet about his “incidents.” Who says money can’t solve problems?

2. Billy Payne, (Augusta National Golf Club chairman) – Before the Masters began, Payne dropped this bomb on Tiger Woods: "It is not simply the degree of his conduct that is so egregious here; it is the fact that he disappointed all of us, and more importantly, our kids and our grand kids. Our hero did not live up to the expectations of the role model we saw for our children.” Sure, Tiger Woods deserves criticism. A lot of criticism. But is Billy Payne really the right person to be doing it? After all, this is the chairman of Augusta National, which doesn’t allow female members, calling out Tiger for disrespecting women. Pretty hypocritical, no? (I swear I had the idea for this post days ago, but Bill Simmons wrote something similar today, so I’m mentioning his name so I don’t get accused of ripping him off).

3. Tim Povtak (NBA FanHouse writer) on LeBron James – I was browsing around today, and came across an article by Tim Povtak entitled LeBron James Owes Fans a Refund. Throughout the article, he criticizes LeBron for sitting out a few games because the Cavaliers already have the best record in the NBA locked up. Povtak says he owes it to the fans to be out there every night if physically able. He goes on to say that LeBron has lost his vote for MVP because of it. Now, I don’t know who Tim Povtak is, or if he really does have an MVP vote, but it’s pretty clear that he’s an absolute clown. As I’ve said multiple times on F2DD, I am a LeBron hater, but this is just ridiculous. As much as I dislike LeBron, he is the clear cut MVP (with respect to Kevin Durant and Dwight Howard), and just because he chose to sit out a few games to rest up for the playoffs shouldn’t change that. I’m pretty sure every Cavs fan out there is all for LeBron sitting out, if he thinks it is going to give them a better chance of winning a championship. No one in Cleveland is complaining about LeBron missing a few meaningless games, I can assure you that.

Saturday Night Live, "The Masters"

Over the weekend, actress and nerd-crush Tina Fey returned to the Saturday Night Live crew as she guest-hosted last night's show.

One of the more memorable skits from that show was this parody of CBS's coverage of the Masters where Tina Fey plays a "Tiger Expert" named Ashlyn St. Cloud.

Near the end of the clip, it also shows a brief spoof of the Tiger Woods Nike commercial.

Tiger Woods Thinks "He Sucks...Goddamit"

If I remember correctly, Tiger Woods during his Masters Press Conference said that we would see a more subdued and in-control Tiger Woods.

Well, during the third round of the Masters at hole 6, Tiger decided to berate himself after hitting a bad shot by saying, "Tiger Woods, You Suck, Goddammit".

Hey, if no-one else is going to, it might as well be Tiger.

Sir Charles Is Racist...At His Finest

Barkley Rips Masters Head -- He's an 'Uncle Tom'
Posted Apr 9th 2010 3:01PM by TMZ Staff
Charles Barkley has resorted to racial insults in his attack on the guy who runs the Masters -- comparing Billy Payne to a slave-driving plantation owner after Payne ripped Tiger Woods over the scandal.
Barkley -- who used to be pretty tight with Woods -- went on Fox Sports Radio yesterday and said, "You got this punk ass Billy Payne who goes on TV ... for him to get on there and act like he's all Uncle Tom, he's the master on the plantation, that piss me off."
Barkley added, "I wish somebody would just walk up to him and punch him in his face."
Earlier this week, Payne mentioned Tiger in his news conference saying, "Our hero did not live up to the expectations of the role model we saw for our children."

This is why I love Charles Barkley.  No filter.  He speaks what's on his mind, whatever the fuck it may be.  Although he is clueless on half the shit he speaks on, it makes for great entertainment.  Chuck and Tiger have had a very relaxed relationship over the years impersonating each other on various occasions and this is just another instance of Sir Charles sticking up for his boy Eldrick.  At the end of the day we all know Chuck still loves Tiger, regardless of how many bitches he slays, and hates all powerful white men.

O yeah, he doesn't just love rich white dudes, but women as well.
"I'd never buy my girl a watch... she's already got a clock over the stove."

This Week in Unnecessary Censorship Featuring Tiger, Coach K, and Erin Andrews

For those of you that have never seen an episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live", he does this weekly segment called, "This Week in Unnecessary Censorship" where they show a series of clips and use bleeps and blurs to make the clips appear dirtier than they actually are.

This week's edition features clips from golfer Tiger Woods, ESPN Sideline Reporter Erin Andrews, and Duke men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski.

More of Jimmy Kimmel Rippin' on Tiger Woods

On some level, it's incredibly easy to take shots at Tiger Woods right now but late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has made it into an art-form.

Here are the latest videos from last night's Jimmy Kimmel Live where Jimmy talked about Tiger's return to golf and the backlash from his latest Nike Commercial.

Huh...Even Airplanes Can Heckle Tiger Woods

On some level, I expected that there would be at least some sort of backlash coming from fans when Tiger Woods played in his first organized golf tournament since "The Worst Thanksgiving Ever".

However, I didn't expect the backlash to come from the sky. Allegedly, someone paid a Toledo Ad Agency to fly these aerial messages in regards to Tiger Woods transgressions near Augusta National Golf Course for The Masters. There will be a total of six messages and the first two were flew-by today.

In the above picture is the second message they flew-by which said, "Sex Addict? Yeah. Right. Sure. Me Too!" and the first one can be seen in the below video.

"Tiger Did You Mean...Bootyism?". Ha Ha Ha.

Michelle Beadle Parodies Tiger Woods New Nike Commercial

Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you have probably seen the latest Nike advertisement for Tiger Woods.

Well, our good friends at ESPN SportsNation created their own parody of it with co-host and Outside The Boxscore favorite, Michelle Beadle.

Tiger Tees Off at the Masters

Very warm reception for Tiger at Augusta, as he drilled his first tee shot right down the center of the fairway. It was all positive on the ground -- not a single audible boo -- but the sky was a different story.

It Wasn't Tiger (It Wasn't Me Shaggy Rap Parody)

The day the world has been anticipating since Tiger's antics back in November is finally here. Tiger Woods will be competing back on the green today for the first time in 144 days. Once tiger addressed the media publicly on Tuesday, we hope that some of the weight was lifted off his shoulders and he can go back to focusing on golf. I'm just hoping he can connect with the little Nike ball as hard as Elin connected with his face back on Thanksgiving evening. God speed El Tigre, God speed.

If you for some reason want to download this piece of shit song, you can do so here..."It Wasn't Tiger"
P.S. Tiger Tee's off today at 1:42 EST
P.P.S. What's El Tigre goin' for with the Goatee look? You think Elin likes to feel a little scruff scruff down there?

Jimmy Kimmel Mocks Tiger Woods New Nike Commercial

Recently on Outside the Boxscore, we featured Tiger Woods new Nike advertisement which featured the voice of his father, Earl Woods.

Well, Jimmy Kimmel decided to make fun of that commercial with his own version of it which features his mother, Kultida Woods doing the voice over.

Fantastic.

New Tiger Woods Nike Advertisement, Starring Earl Woods From the Grave!

With Tiger Woods returning to professional golf this week for the Masters, I had a feeling that Nike would trot out a Tiger Woods advertisement.

However, I didn't expect something this weird. Essentially, the advertisement itself is just a close-up of Tiger Woods with a voice-over accompanying it.

The voice heard during the commercial is of Tiger's father, Earl Woods where he asks Tiger about his feelings, current thinking and did he learn anything. I'm not sure how they got the audio, whether they cut it from a prior interview or just audio-mixed a voice-over to sound like his father.

Nike did not comment if this commercial was inferring about Tiger's recent transgressions but I can't help to think that wasn't the target of it at least.

All in all, it's a rather strange commercial from Nike but in the end, we get another view of Tiger Woods.

New Nike Ad Featuring Tiger Woods

This new Nike ad aired for the first time tonight on ESPN and the Golf Channel, just a day before Tiger makes his much anticipated return at the Masters. Nike was one of the few sponsors who actually stuck with Tiger throughout all of his troubles. The man speaking in the background while Tiger stares at the camera is Earl Woods, Tiger's father. Very interesting commercial. What do you think?
