Manny’s “Baby” Shower

I think it is pretty much common knowledge that Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez tested positive for a banned substance which caused Major League Baseball to suspend him for fifty games.

A report regarding the test claimed that the test found a banned substance used mostly in fraternity drugs.

Well, the guys over at Global Sports Fraternity created another YouTube gem when they asked the question, “How did the Dodgers welcome Manny back?”

FDH Lounge: Manny's sham suspension

When does a 50-game suspension not equal a 50-game suspension? When it applies to everyone's favorite clown, Manny Ramirez.

He returned to major league action yesterday, the operative phrase being "major league," for he was allowed to play minor league ball recently in preparation for his return. Why? So that he would be fully ready to return at the end of the "suspension." To do otherwise, it has been opined, would be unfair to the team that is already missing his services for lo these past 50 games.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this team turned a blind eye to the fact that they were signing a steroid abuser. Oh, sure, they didn't have any proof that he was ("shocked, shocked that there is gambling going on here!"), just like San Francisco had no idea about Bonds, the Yanks were clueless about Clemens and the Cubs were in the dark about Sosa. Riiiiiiiiight.

For years now, teams have been turning a willing blind eye to the issue of roids and HGH because "everyone does it." As sick as it is, there is a certain rough logic to it because it seems quite likely that the vast majority of players over the past two decades were shoveling all forms of poison into their bodies in a Faustian bargain for better performance.

But don't try to have it both ways.Go ahead and sign likely 'roiders if you must and justify it however you need to. But when they get caught and you're going to lose them for a period of time, try not to go all emo teenage girl with your "OMG so unfairz to not have Manny like 100% from his first day back, so PO'd!!!!!" take. Sack up, take it like a man, and dispatch Manny to the minors at the end of his suspension for whatever "getting back in game shape" reps he needs.

Manny should not have been swinging a bat in a competitive game until yesterday. The fact that he was delivers further shame to baseball and proves that they still haven't come to grips with rolling back the 'roid era in the game.

Guillermo still torn up over Manny, Sings him a song

On last night's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, everyone's favorite parking lot security guard Guillermo is still sad over the Manny Ramirez situation.

So, he decided to dedicate him a song called, "Oh Manny." For those of you who do not get the song reference, it's "Mandy" by Barry Manilow.

Let's be honest, it is funny. Also, I am also still awaiting a check from Jimmy Kimmel Live for pimping their YouTube videos.

Guillermo makes up with Manny

During an episode last week of Jimmy Kimmel Live, everyone’s favorite parking lot security guard Guillermo was saddened by the news that Manny Ramirez was suspended for 50 games regarding violating the MLB Drug Policy.

Well, Guillermo was not happy about it and decides to take a trip down to Dodgers stadium to personally ask Manny why he did such a thing. Manny told him that he was sorry and then offered Guillermo a hug which Guillermo accepted.

If only Major League Baseball and other fans could do the same for Manny, at least Guillermo can forgive Manny. I think you should too.

Man-Ram violates MLB drug policy suspended 50 games; Steroid Era brought up again

As I woke up from my tired stupor on Thursday morning, someone sent me a text message that displayed as “Manny Roidmirez.” Then I heard the eventual news that Los Angeles Dodger Manny Ramirez was suspended for 50 games by Major League Baseball for violating its drug policy.

The story that Ramirez presented to the press was that his doctor had issued a medication for a personal issue which is believe to contain something in women’s fertility drugs called HCG which some steroid users use to restart their natural hormone process. That is believe to have caused the positive test.

At this point, this situation is really unclear since the story itself seems plausible but considering the cloud of the MLB steroid era, it would not surprise me that Manny could have juiced one year or even more in the big leagues. Ramirez was mentioned in Canseco’s book “Juiced” for possibly being a steroid user but Canseco showed no evidence that he knew Manny was juicing.

This just seem to provide another cloud over the steroid era in baseball and at this point, many records and players from that era will forever be tested to whether they used performance-enhancing substances or not. For a fan of baseball, everything is called into question and memories of Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, Rafael Palmeiro among many others will always seem to be under “rose-colored glasses.” The legitimacy of records during that era will always be in question and many of those records will never be clean until a player we know that is clean breaks them. The irony of the fact is that people we thought were clean who we though could break the records ended up not being clean at all. (I.E. A-Rod)

Reading another story of a player who might have tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance just seems to be a bore to me again. I know that there were juicers and players who we hope did not juice in Major League Baseball but the line has become so unclear that it gets to the theory of, “Guilty until proven Innocent” How can we prove that Manny did not take steroids? Do you trust his word?

For as many times as we try to forget about that era of baseball, it keeps yielding it’s ugly head. Very sadly though, it probably will continue to do so unless we know the full truth from that era which unless we get a time-machine to proof that certain players were clean, we will never know.

Reunited and it feeeels so goooooood

Well looks like Manny Ramirez is going back where he came from.
To the Dodgers, that is.

Today Manny finally, after months and months, agreed to a two year 45 million dollar deal. There's an opt out clause after year one and it also necessitates that he donate $1 million to the Dodgers Dream Foundation. Happy ending to a long drawn out story. Somewhere in America Juan Pierre is crying. Because he sucks. Manny is really good and Pierre sucks.

In more news showing that you can go home again, Kurt Warner i s again a Cardinal and Ray Lewis is again a Raven, both claiming for life. Warner's deal is 2 year $23 million, Ray's is 3 years $22 million (isn't that weird?) and both guys are probably right that they won't switch teams since they're both really really old. But good to see them returning to places they've excelled, and I'd love to see a Cardinals-Steelers Super Bowl next year (which is pretty doubtful because the Steelers/Patriots/Colts are damn good but hey, you never know).

Finally, the Denver Broncos signed Lamont Jordan and (officially) JJ Arringon today. They now have those two plus Correll Buckhalter, Selvin Young, Andre Hall, Peyton Hillis, and Ryan Torain at RB. So...what gives? At first I was a fan of McDaniels' Broncos for cutting a lot of dead weight and signing guys like Gaffney and Dawkins. But three middling RBs and a QB controversy later, I'm not so sure. Still looking like the Chargers division to win next year.

Manny Ramirez is hilarious (Apparently Angel Berroa is too)

This is a video of Manny "translating" for Angel Berroa. But the guy giving the interview gets a big surprise at the end.

Manny Ramirez - What are you thinking?

Manny, Manny, Manny...

Yesterday Manny Ramirez rejected a one year-$25 million dollar offer from the Dodgers. And I just can't get my head around why (other than Manny is crazy and Scott Boras is insane). I get it's not a multi-year contract...but in this shitty economy what does he expect?

So there are rumors that maybe the Nationals wanted him. Nope. Mets Not really. Yankees, they always have money right? Not even close.

So where could he go? The other big money team, Boston, has a zillion OFs and an awkward Manny past. The Angels have at least 3 starting OFs...don't really need much more. So it's looking like the Giants and the Dodgers. I don't see the Dodgers offering a whole ton more...so maybe Manny wasn't kidding when he said he might retire this year if he doesn't get any good offers. For shame...I'm hoping he wises up and signs so we can see him kill the ball for the Dodgers (or get intentionally walked a lot for the Giants).

Oh and here's the sweet video of Manny making a catch, high fiving a fan, and then throwing the ball in to finish a double play.

Manny Being...Retired?

As usual, MLBTradeRumors has the scoop.

Apparently Manny, fed up with not receiving a monster contract offer yet this offseason, is thinking of hanging up the cleats. Manny's been playing 15 years now and can be a distraction for sure, but we saw last year just how effective Manny can be when he's in his element. I'm a Red Sox fan and I know he burned us last year but damn the guy can play. Say it ain't so ManRam!

A few teams have shown interest, but nothing major. Traderumors puts Dodgers, Yankees, and Nats in the lukewarm hat. Here's to hoping Manny and his lifetime .411 OBP get to see time in the field next year.

I mean the man high-fived a fan mid double play. Doesn't get much sweeter than that.
