Well, it’s not really surprising anymore but yet another NBA coach was given the door this week.
Today’s victim was Philadelphia 76ers head coach Maurice Cheeks. The loss last night to the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road by the score of 88 to 72 was the final straw for a team that had lost eight of its last ten.
If you’re keeping track at home, this is the fifth NBA coach to be fired from his job in the past month and a half. The 76ers were expected to be competing for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with the acquisition of former Clipper Elton Brand.
However that hasn’t helped since the team is now 9-14 and dead last in the Atlantic. Current assistant general manager Tony Dileo will take over on an interim basis.
Seriously though NBA teams, what is the deal with firing your head coach only 20 some odd games into the season? In the end, people maybe should follow the Utah Jazz organization whose head coach Jerry Sloan has been their coach for 21 years.
The NBA plays Russian Roulette again
