Maybe you're like me. Maybe you trust an all pro kicker from 49 yards out and under 2 minutes left in the game. Maybe you trust him because he's already gone from 51 earlier in the game. Maybe you trust him because he hit 8 field goals against the very same Houston Texans last year to win a game almost singlehandedly. Maybe you just let him kick because you're down by less than a field goal and that's what teams do.
Well Jeff Fisher isn't like me or you. With 1:55 left and the game on the line, he let Kerry Collins attempt a pass to Justin Gage on 4th and 3. Kerry Collins sucked, Justin Gage sucked, and the Texans ran out the clock. Titans LB Keith Bulluck reacted with the standard backing up of the coach, saying "That field goal may have won us the game, but I think we did a lot of things to lose the game before that. I think Coach (Jeff Fisher) made the decision he needed to make."
But Fisher, who said he thought the kick wasn't in Bironas' range, told it like it was.
"It was not a good coaching decision," Fisher said.
Damn right it wasn't. It takes a decent coach to win games. It takes a great coach to admit when he really screwed the pooch. And this pooch was of presidential proportions, as it turned a sure win and 8 game winning streak versus the Texans into a 2nd loss and bulletin board material for those same upstart (now 7-7 and winners of 4 straight) Texans to use next year.
But I don't know..would anyone out there have gone for it as well? Out of range or not, does anyone trust Kerry Collins with the game on the line?
